Your creative [3D] space
This year, we're focusing on data structures and behavioral modeling. We want to ensure that we continue to make the software easier and simpler to use, which will enhance your ability to design those amazing projects.
Outliner
This leads us to a major organizational change. In an effort to improve model efficiency, you no longer need to build layer by layer. You can do your main model directly within the Outliner. We recommend using this (and its eyeball-friendly icon) to switch between key parts of your model.
Grips on bounding boxes and automatic transparency
Grab that sofa and put it in the corner! Just try it, we don't need to explain further.
Hidden objects
A major change is being announced for hiding objects in your models! You'll notice in the drop-down menu that we've separated hiding objects from hiding geometry. How will this change your workflow? This will allow you to better manage hidden geometry and hidden objects. For example, let's say you want to edit a hidden horizontal edge or flat surface, but you also want to hide nearby objects (like trees, bushes, or buildings)... Yes, you can do that in SketchUp! Landscape architects rejoice!
The SketchUp Universe: Nomenclatures
After several discussions, we've decided to update our naming convention. This won't change your workflow, but we want you to know that it's not just you – we're talking about something different now. We think they make the logic a little more pervasive.

It's all about taking control… document control, that is! For LayOut, we focus on improving the interaction between SketchUp and LayOut to save time and brainpower. Less updating of scenes in SketchUp to ensure your drawings come out perfect, now you have more editing capabilities in LayOut.
