New Features in AutoCAD 2023
1. Traces
The tracking feature found in the Collaboration tab is an excellent tool for monitoring and recording new line edits.
Opening the pallet for tracking in the first instance indicates that there are no traces in the drawing.
If we use the import markup feature, we can overlay the red line markup, which can be an image file such as jpeg or png, or a pdf file. In this example, I use a pdf of a simple redline markup of the paper area in this drawing.
Clicking on Markup Import will display the dialog box.
Here, we can see that the import of the markup has discovered two instances of Redline markup: one in the text format and another in the simple hand-drawn details. From this point, we can extract the details and incorporate them into the drawing as markup.
The markup is currently displayed in the tracking palette, allowing users to see when redline edits were added to the drawing.
2. Cut/Copy Base
Basic copy properties are highly efficient in workflows because they establish a reference point in the first instance at the lowest left position within the geometry.
3. Polylines
Polygons are often used to create boundary areas and similar closed lines. When plotting vertices to create a polyline, we find that we must continue in one direction because the vertices are numbered. This is essentially to describe the direction of the polygon line.
If we add a vertex at the endpoint, it will provide an additional vertex that increases the length of the straight line. However, if we add a vertex at the starting point of the straight line, we are adding a new vertex at the second position and do not increase the length of the line. This means that we can now right-click on any vertex at either end and select “Extend Vertex,” which will extend the line segment at that point. Although this may seem like a minor difference, it can actually save a significant amount of time when creating clean and efficient polylines.
4. Display – View Tab
With the option to display choices, we can now detach the View Tab and make it float, allowing it to be moved to a second monitor if desired. The view now also has its own command line, making it much easier to focus on the view and providing the option to enter commands in the same visual orientation.
5. Display – FASTSHADEMODE
Finally, in the Display, you will see a new command called FASTSHADEMODE. This command efficiently utilizes newer GPUs to provide an exceptionally illuminated 3D view.
Overall, the new features and updates in AutoCAD 2023 are stable and can be integrated into your daily workflow immediately.
